Lautus Soap Ltd.

Established in 2017, Lautus Soap was born when founder, Taylor, moved to Okotoks Alberta. While her soaping and skincare journey started in 2019, the face of the company rebranded several times.

Lautus Soap is committed to making products that are palm free, phthalate free, paraben free and filler free. Lautus is fully registered/compliant with Health Canada, up to date with local business license requirements and fully insured. Lautus is also a member in good standing with the ‘Soap & Cosmetic Guild’, an internationally recognized body.

Why does this make a difference?
At Lautus I ensure that we not only understand all of our ingredients and their uses/potentials, but also actively avoid ones that are not safe for yourself or the environment. By showing you that all products are fully compliant and safe by following all federally regulated standards, I believe you can trust our products on your skin, in your home and with your family. All of my products are used on family members (yes, even my doggy shampoo was in fact tested on myself and my dog). I believe that to sell a product you need to believe in it - and all of Lautus’ recipes have been tested and tweaked over the last decade to present to you a product that I can stand behind.

A BIT ABOUT ME

Growing up in Alberta, I assumed that it was normal to be so itchy you cried, or to have sores appear on your scalp or back of the hands - disgusting right? I always had sensitive skin, and reacted to most commercial brands of soap, washes and lotions. I hurt. In my early 20’s I began to learn about the additives in commercial products - and was really upset to learn that they weren’t all good for me. I wanted a simple product; just a few ingredients that wouldn’t make my skin sore.

I started to make bath bombs and scrubs, quickly moving onto soap bars - and loved it. I had full control over what was going on my skin. I stopped itching. Making products for myself I quickly learned how many others out there had similar issues. Allergies. Sensitivities. Boycotting of various ingredients. I loved making these products and thought it would be easy enough to start making them to help people who had issues like I did.

Now, I have a full range of products and growing into retail locations as well as attend many local markets and strive to keep up with my online shop as well. It’s a full time job for sure.

Outside of the soap world, my educational background is in Anthropology (B.Sc.) where I concentrated on Non-human Primate Behavior - yup. I went to Africa to learn how to study local monkey populations. I also hold a minor in Geography. I currently work as a Health & Safety Program Coordinator for a small environmental consulting firm in Calgary, Alberta, that focuses on keeping groundwater safe. I bring all of my experiences and knowledge to the table for my small business and know that it helps elevate my knowledge of chemistry and biology - pretty important when mixing chemicals and putting them onto your body!
